New Year and Newest Content Added

So, I'm gearing up for (and have been very busy preparing for) the American Library Association Mid-Winter Conference this week ... and for the final discussions on the Odyssey Award's (secret) final nominations list!  So excited!

While I haven't posted, I have been adding content to the "Youth Services Programs and Resources" area.  For example, recently added a Counting program for 2s and 3s and a Clocks and Counting program for 4s and 5s.  There is a Moon and Stars program for 2-5 Music and Movement program.  You'll see the corresponding public bibliographies on Worldcat.

More Buckeye Book Award Graphics

Below is information from the weekly listserv from Janet Ingraham Dwyer, who focuses on youth info in the State Library of Ohio:

Paper ballots are also available for you to download and distribute at your library. Pair them with a display of BCTBA nominated books, or use them in a program. When patrons return their filled-in ballots to you, please enter them at http://www.bcbookaward.info/. You can group all the votes for each book, so you don’t have to enter every ballot separately. Or just bundle all your ballots and send them to me via statewide delivery or US Mail, and I’ll enter them for you. Make sure you include your contact information! All BCTBA ballots must be entered online by Sunday, November 10, so if you are sending yours to me, send them by November 1 to be safe.

Buckeye Book Award Voting Program

I have two displays with multiple copies of the K-2 and 3-5 nominees.  Then in October, I'll use the ballots to collect votes.  Those who vote get the I VOTED graphic printed on a sticker.  I'll send in each group's majority winner through the website: http://www.bcbookaward.info/

Kevin Hawkes, Mazza Medallion Winner

The Mazza Museum awards the Mazza Medallion for excellence in artistic diversity.

Jerry Mallett introduced the breadth of Kevin Hawkes' work as well as followed his consistent use of shadow and acrylics. One of Hawkes’ previous awards includes the 1994 Golden Kite Award for By the Light of the Halloween Moon, published in 1993. Mallett noticed the significance of the award because it is voted on by other artists.

In his acceptance speech, Hawkes acknowledged the Mazza as “the center for creativity and inspiration.” He compared one’s handwriting to one's art style; one’s personality comes through though the media may be different. He also mentioned some of his other (diverse) artistic interests including rock carving and, at one time, hand-knotting a rug.
